Before selling your iMac with Decluttr, we recommend wiping your device and resetting it. This is to make sure the next user doesn’t have access to your private data such as email addresses, passwords etc 

You’ll also need to back up or transfer any files you want to keep. Make sure you do this before starting the reset process. 

You’ll also need to sign out of iCloud, sign out of iMessage and sign out of iTunes. Plus, unpair any Bluetooth devices such as an Apple Watch or iPhone.

Before making your iMac trade-in, you’ll need to wipe and reset your device back to factory settings to ensure the next user can’t access any of your private information.

Follow these steps to wipe your iMac if you’ve upgraded to macOS Monterey on a Mac with Apple Silicon or a Mac with Apple T2 Security Chip:

• If you previously installed Microsoft Windows using Boot Camp, you’ll need to move it before continuing 
• From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences 
• In the menu bar, select Erase All Content and Settings
• Sign in and enter your Mac password
• Continue to allow your settings, media and other items to be removed
• You may be asked to sign out of your Apple ID, which means you’ll need to enter your Apple ID password and click Continue
• Click Erase All Content & Settings to confirm 
• Your device will restart and display a progress bar - you may be asked to select a Wi-Fi network or attach a network cable. 
• After joining a network, your Mac activates and then select Restart 

Use Disk Utility to erase your device:

• Turn on your Mac, press hold and command and R until you see the Apple logo
• Select a user you know the password for, if asked 
• From the utility window, select Disk Utility and choose Continue 
• Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar 
• Choose the erase button and enter the requested details 
• Select Erase 
• Enter your Apple ID if asked 
• Once the process has been completed, choose any other internal volumes and click delete volume
• Quit Disk Utility
