You probably own at least one tech product, if not more, and the chances are you upgrade every couple of years too. While it’s great to get your hands on the latest tech, not many of us consider what happens to the tech we don’t use anymore.
The answer is that a lot of it goes to landfill, where it pollutes land, air and sea with all manner of nasty chemicals. E-waste, as it’s officially known, is the world’s fastest growing waste stream and will only continue to grow, so it’s on all of us to do our bit and recycle the tech we don’t need anymore responsibly.
And no, leaving your tech in a drawer somewhere doesn’t count. Tech gradually loses value over time, so it's better to sell it now instead of waiting around and ending up with a valueless piece of glass-and-plastic (which, let's face it, you’d be more likely to throw in the trash).
At Decluttr, we make sure to recycle tech products responsibly. The vast majority of the products we buy are refurbished for resale, with the rest used for parts to recycle other products.
